Volunteer of the Year — Guam Chapter

DEBBIE CM NGATA

DEBBIE CM NGATA

While Debbie was a member since 2009, it wasn’t until 2015 that she stepped up and took her first leadership role with the AGA Guam Chapter as the Membership Director, holding the position for five years.  In her role, one of her tasks was to send welcome emails with details of the chapter’s leadership and activities to new members.  This became the precursor to her new role as the Newsletter Editor in 2020.  As Newsletter Editor, Debbie updated the look and vibe of the chapter’s newsletter and rebranded it with a local flavor by referring to it as the GUÅHAN GASETA.

In 2018, Debbie accepted the challenge to take on the President-Elect position and later attended LEAD 2019!, which gave her the idea to have the chapter host an AGA Guam Chapter Family Picnic.  This provided her an opportunity to meet more of the members prior to taking on her role as President.  It was also around this time that she became more active with the events sponsored by the Chapter – from volunteering her time for community service events to assisting with coordinating training events and other activities.  In 2019, her efforts were recognized, and she received the AGA Guam Chapter Community Service Award.  During her term as President, the Guam Chapter received the Platinum Award.

In 2020, while serving as Immediate Past President, Debbie stayed active with the CEC as the Newsletter Editor.  In this new role, she strove to stay informed about all that went on with the chapter for reporting in the newsletter.  To reach more readers and keep the membership community tight, Debbie included sections in the newsletter to highlight member achievements and allowed student members to contribute to the newsletter.  Her efforts paid off as Debbie’s newsletter contributed to the chapter’s receipt of the 2021 Chapter Communications Award. Since Debbie enjoys making flyers and other announcements for the chapter, she also assisted with the email blasts and social media sites by providing designs for use.  In 2022, the Newsletter team merged with the Webmaster and the newly created Social Media committee to become the Marketing & Communications committee, which fit the role that Debbie played.

Aside from designing the chapter’s newsletter and event announcements, Debbie also contributed to the Chapter by assisting the Accountability Committee in creating the CCRs for the past three years, with all reviewed CCRs receiving the Recognition of Excellence from national.  In this role, Debbie learned more about the CCRs and was recommended to assist National in being a CCR Reviewer.  She assisted in reviewing these past two program years and just recently participated as a reviewer for National’s Government Finance Case Challenge.

Despite her busy schedule, Debbie continues her efforts to be an active member and plans to continue her role with the Marketing & Communications committee for the next program year. She strives to improve the projects she works on for the chapter and to continue spreading relevant information to keep the chapter transparent with its members.  Debbie Ngata is a long-time former Senior Auditor in the private sector, and in the local government sector and is now the General Accounting Supervisor for the Guam International Airport Authority.
