CGFM Live, Virtual Courses
AGA is pleased to offer another CGFM preparation option: live, virtual CGFM courses for individual participants. Get the benefits of live training with a knowledgeable instructor and the convenience of staying at your home or office.
Course Schedule and Registration
- Course 1 (“Governmental Environment”)
- Course 2 (“Governmental Accounting, Financial Reporting and Budgeting”)
- This course covers the general principles of governmental accounting, financial reporting and budgeting. It also covers the unique aspects of accounting and reporting for the federal government as well as state and local governments. It is designed for accountants, auditors, budget professionals and controllers in government as well as academics and other professionals who have an interest in government. It is particularly appropriate for newly hired professionals.

- Course 3 (“Governmental Financial Management and Control”)
- This course covers various financial management functions and controls required of government financial managers, including internal control, auditing, performance measurement, financial analysis techniques and specific financial management practices used in government. It is designed for accountants, auditors, budget professionals and controllers in government as well as academics and other professionals who have an interest in government. It is particularly appropriate for newly hired professionals.

Important Details
- Dates/times of training: Each course will be presented live, over the course of several days. The beginning or ending times vary – please see the schedule below.
- Registration and payment: Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 7 days before the class start date. Space is limited. Payment is required by credit card at the time of registration. POs are not accepted.
- “Class is a go/no-go” notification: Since a class-size minimum must be met, AGA will send an email to registered individuals confirming whether or not the class will be held at least two weeks prior to the start of training.
- Cancellation deadline: The cancellation deadline for each course is listed in the schedule below. Refunds, less a $25 processing fee per registrant, will be granted for cancellation requests received in writing by this date. Refunds will not be granted after this date. If the registrant does not attend the course (or the entire course), AGA will not issue credit toward any future training.
- Login instructions and connectivity: 5 days before the class start date, AGA will send an email with instructions on how to log into the course using AGA’s Online Training Portal and Zoom software. Registrants are responsible for ensuring they can connect to these platforms ahead of training and have an adequate internet connection to participate. Registrants are encouraged to turn on their webcam during the class in order to participate in class discussion. Recording the course presentation (audio or video) is strictly prohibited.
- Course materials: 6-months of access to the corresponding online AGA CGFM study guide is included in the course registration. Within 5 days before the class start date, AGA will send an email with instructions on how to access the study guide. If you prefer printed materials, you can purchase them separately here.

CPE Information
- During the course presentation, letters will appear at unannounced times in the top right-hand corner of the PowerPoint slide. Note: This is not a pop-up box. Please write these letters down when you see them.
- At the end of each day, please enter all of the letters in the survey field within AGA’s Online Training Portal.
- Participants who successfully complete this process will receive their CPE certificate in an email within 3 weeks from the end of the training. Partial credit may be awarded if not all letters are submitted.
NOTE: You must be able to view the PowerPoint slides on a device to see the CPE letters.

This course describes the unique aspects of government and how those aspects differ from the private sector and nonprofit organizations. It is designed for accountants, auditors, budget professionals and controllers in government as well as academics and other professionals who have an interest in government. It is particularly appropriate for newly hired professionals.

- how governments are organized and structured;
- the legally-based implications of government financial environment;
- the importance of the budget in government;
- the management cycle, and how the various stages are interrelated;
- how governments are financed;
- the role and structure of taxes;
- the purposes for issuing debt;
- what it means to be publicly accountable;
- the importance of ethics in government;
- electronic services in government.

This course covers the general principles of governmental accounting, financial reporting and budgeting. It also covers the unique aspects of accounting and reporting for the federal government as well as state and local governments. It is designed for accountants, auditors, budget professionals and controllers in government as well as academics and other professionals who have an interest in government. It is particularly appropriate for newly hired professionals.
