About the Candidate Assessment

This assessment is designed to help hiring managers assesses a job candidate’s knowledge of key grants management areas and experience in performing certain tasks. It can also be used by an individual for self-assessment purposes. The assessment is based on psychometrically tested and validated industry-wide survey results contained in NGMA’s Grants Management Body of Knowledge. This assessment is intended for use by all sectors of the grants management field: federal government, state & local governments, non-profits, private foundations, higher education, research, and private corporations.

Respondents are asked to provide information relative to their last THREE years of work. We recognize that many of those taking the assessment will have far more than three years of experience. However, given how much grants management has changed in recent years with passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and related guidance, the work group that prepared this assessment determined that it should cover experience within the last three years.

The assessment is comprised of five sections:

Section 1. This is a series of task statements. These items are intended to gauge a person’s experience in performing grants management tasks.

Section 2. You will be asked about the percent of time you spend in tasks related to: pre-award activities; award activities; post-award activities; close-out activities and other activities.

Section 3. This is a series of knowledge statements. These items are intended to gauge a person’s knowledge of the grants management field.

Section 4. You will be asked about the percent of time you rely on knowledge in the following areas: general knowledge; pre-award activities; award activities; post-award activities; close-out activities and other activities.

Section 5. Demographic questions to obtain information about the applicant. These questions will only be completed by job applicants who are taking this assessment for a hiring mangers. Those taking the self-assessment will not be asked to respond to this section.
